Recently, sketch card artist George Webber updated his Sketch Card Portfolio.

George Webber got into doing Sketch Cards for shows around 2007 and started doing them professionally for card companies in 2009. Some artist like to do 50 or 100 sketch cards in a series, were as George prefers to do only 10 or 20 cards in a series.

How did you get into drawing sketch cards?
A couple of friends got me on to the idea, Brian Kolm (Atomic Bear Press) and Jason Martin (Super Real), it’s been down hill from there … lol

What is your favorite subject to draw?
Women, Monsters, Hot Rods and Motorcycles.

What is your favorite character to draw?
I don’t know that I have a “favorite” but I do end up drawing Vampirella and 50’s Dan DeCarlo/Bill ward style girls a lot.

Do you prefer black & white sketches or color sketches?
I like both Gray Scale and Color, I’ve even mixed them putting Color over gray scale.

What kind of materials do you prefer to work with?2B Mechanical Pencil, Pitt & Copic liner pens, Copic color markers and an assortment of other junk.

I’d like to try some other stuff like water color dyes and acrylics some day.

Who is your favorite sketch card artist?
I haven’t been in it long enough to have a “favorite” but I’ll say I see some amazing talents working on Sketch Cards. Makes me wished I had more money to spend on them.

What are you currently working on?
Mostly stuff for my regular clients like BIKER magazine and Rebel Rodz magazine, a couple of self published comics and of course some sketch card sets.

Has your career as an artist benefited from doing sketch card work?
Not a great deal so far, other than I get a little extra work doing the cards and I find it a fun challenge to try and be creative in such a small space.

On the other hand I do see some people that seem to be doing quite well with it.

Do you collect trading cards for yourself?
I have some sets from when I was younger like Vampirella, Olivia, Elvgren, Petty and such.

These days when I can I prefer getting original sketch cards from artist at Comics shows, as much as I like Trading Cards, I think the original Sketch Cards have more personal value as it’s an original piece of art, it’s like a mini Con Sketch. One of a kind, not mass produced.

Do you have a website / blog / online presence where readers can find more information about you?
www.NoCashComics.com is my main site and is generally the most up to date or @NoCashComics if people like Twitter and of course there’s http://gwebber.deviantart.com and my old Feverdreams.com site.
