The Avengers Kree-Skrull War trading cards

“This July Marvel and Upper Deack are coming together and releasing five new comics that took place during the Kree-Skrull War. But these comics are going to be told through the trading cards and are apart of real comics continuity. And they are written by Fear Itself author Sean McKeever It will be a 190 card set and will have these stories for you to put together”:

- The Sacrifice, a 20-page story that focuses on Cap, Thor, Iron Man and Vision, with art by Manuel Garcia.

- Power, a four-page story about Super-Skrull with art by Carlos Paul.

- The Debt, which tells a story of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in an eight-page comic drawn by Andy Smith.

- The Fall, which is about Nick Fury and features six pages of art by Allan Patrick.

- Soldier’s Honor, a four-page story that focuses on Captain America and has art by Fabio Jansen.

“Each card has a front and back, with nine cards fitting together to make a two-sided page. The cards will be sold with nine cards per $3 pack, and 24 packs per box. Upper Deck will also have additional insert cards in the collection, including “cover art” for the stories.”

Newsarama: OK, Sean, when this was announced, it sounded more like it was about the cards instead of a real comic. But I guess since they got a real comic writer to do this, it’s legit?

Sean McKeever: It is! It’s a real Marvel comic. It’s the first time Marvel has done something like this, and it’s part of continuity. And it ties into a major storyline, with the Kree-Skrull War.

From ICv2:

Upper Deck’s new Marvel Beginnings release (see “’Marvel Beginnings Series 1’ Trading Cards”) includes Marvel Ultimate Collection Panel Focus insert cards, trading cards that incorporate a piece of a rare comic. Amazing Spider-Man #2 is one of the rare comics used for the Panel Cards.

“Upper Deck has secured several original issues of old Marvel comic books and is strategically cutting them up to comprise the Marvel Ultimate Collection Panel Focus insert cards,” Bubby Johanson, Upper Deck Marvel Product Manager, explained.  “We anticipate getting our fair share of reactions, both good and bad, from comic book collectors and trading card collectors.”

Panel cards are the rarest insert cards, at one per case.  Sketch and autograph cards combine to fall one per box in almost a 50/50 ratio, according to the company.

The autograph signers did less than 100 apiece, with Stan Lee, Tom Orzechowski, and Joe Sinnott at 20 or less per card.

ere are the deconstructed comics (now available via trading card at a rate of one panel at a time):

In a move seemingly timed to appeal to the Wednesday comic store crowd, the Stussy x Marvel collaboration launched on April 27. What’s it all about? $36 dollar t-shirts packed with collector-centric trading cards sporting a mix of classic and indie art, from the look of it. The collection debuts Tuesday night at a Meltdown Comics party in Hollywood, California and is followed by a special Stussy/Mondo/Marvel movie event at the Cinefamily theater.

Bubby Johanson and Brandon Miller of Upper Deck Entertainment take some time out to share what is coming up next for Marvel releases.

In June Upper Deck follows up with a trading card release based on the Marvel Studios’ movie Captain America: The First Avenger, which is slated to debut on July 22nd. The 90-card Captain America set features all the key moments and characters from the highly anticipated movie, plus some great inserts including autographs from the film’s cast and “patch” cards that feature some of the popular patches and insignias used in the movie.
